Heroes’ Vow: Three Kingdoms is a sandbox RPG set during the late Han Dynasty. It combines role-playing, simulation, strategy, and turn-based combat systems. The game lets the player take different roles, including ruler, courtier, or hermit, while interacting with the major events of the Three Kingdoms period. It covers nearly a century of history, from the Yellow Turban Rebellion to the fall of Eastern Wu. More than 100 scenarios and over two million words of historical events are included. Players can follow famous battles or change their outcomes through different characters and factions. The game also includes relationships, marriage, children, estate management, government, military training, and character development. Its full version released on September 23, 2026, after an Early Access period that began in March 2025.

Gameplay:

In Heroes’ Vow: Three Kingdoms, you create a character and decide how to live within the late Han Dynasty. Your role can develop around politics, military affairs, personal relationships, or a quieter life as a hermit. The sandbox structure does not force every character into the same path. The historical scenarios provide different perspectives on major events and famous factions. At the Battle of Chibi, for example, you can take the role of Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sun Quan, Zhuge Liang, Zhou Yu, or another officer serving under them. Your actions can change the results of these events.

Combat uses tactical and turn-based systems, while military management extends beyond individual battles. You can train yourself and your allies, drill troops, govern territories, and manage forces as your position develops. Political decisions also influence how your faction operates. Relationships form another major part of the game. Characters can make friends, marry, have children, and build families. NPC families also develop independently, purchase land, construct houses, and establish private troops. This creates a broader social system outside direct player control.

The county system expands territorial management in the full release. More than 200 counties have individual maps and layouts, and county magistrates can be appointed and supported through investment. Counties can also become defensive positions when armies meet there. Players can purchase land and construct buildings in civilian districts, while defensive improvements can increase a county’s Defense Level. Higher levels allow defensive structures to develop into forts or fortresses, giving territorial control a greater military function.

History can also be altered through decisions, combat ability, and dialogue-based choices. Important historical figures can survive events where they normally die, while famous battles can produce different results. The game includes scenarios where players can attempt to change the fate of characters such as Guan Yu, Zhuge Liang, Zhou Yu, and Guo Jia.
