A Total War Saga TROY Free Download is a 2020 turn-based strategy game developed by Creative Assembly Sofia and published by SEGA. It hit Windows first on August 13, 2020, exclusively through the Epic Games Store for one full year. Then it landed on Steam on September 2, 2021. The game draws straight from Homer’s Iliad, dropping players into the heart of the legendary Trojan War. Paris, the prince of Troy, runs off with Helen — wife of Spartan king Menelaus. That one act is enough to drag the entire Aegean world into war. Players pick one of eight iconic heroes, either fighting to protect Troy or burning it down. Achilles, Hector, Agamemnon, Odysseus, Paris, Menelaus, Aeneas — each one brings a completely different campaign experience to the table.

A Total War Saga: TROY PC Game Gameplay:

TROY runs on the same engine as Total War: Warhammer, so it sits in this interesting spot between historical strategy and light fantasy. The game splits into two distinct layers. On the campaign map, players manage their faction in turn-based mode — building cities, recruiting troops, setting diplomacy, and moving armies. When two armies collide, the game drops into real-time tactical battles on detailed terrain maps. Those battles are where things get intense.

Eight playable heroes cover both the Trojan and Achaean factions. Each hero has two unique combat abilities for the battlefield and their own distinct skill tree. Agamemnon plays completely differently from Achilles — different starting position, different roster, different diplomacy, different faction mechanics. Achilles runs a morale-based system where his faction’s bonuses shift depending on his current mood. Menelaus has his Call to Arms mechanic. Hector runs the Assuwan League.

The resource system is where TROY parts most visibly from older Total War games. Instead of just gold, players now juggle five different resources: food, wood, stone, bronze, and gold. Managing all five is critical for city development, troop recruitment, and working through the tech tree. Bronze is particularly scarce and fights for your attention constantly.

Divine Will adds another layer. Different Greek gods can be prayed to, and keeping their approval high grants active gameplay bonuses for your faction. Priestesses can be recruited as agents and sent to perform actions against enemy nations. Envoys and spies round out the three-agent system.

Real-time battles feature varied terrain that actually changes how units perform. Heavy infantry in mud get bogged down and become easy targets for ranged fire. Long grass hides certain units completely, letting them ambush enemies from stealth. Flanking has a serious morale impact — a well-timed flank can shatter an entire enemy formation. Units don’t die as fast as in Rome II or Warhammer, so battles run longer and more tactical.

Hero units level up over time and can be geared out with equipment earned from victories and completed missions. Epic Mission chains are built around each hero’s story, giving the campaign a narrative thread beyond pure conquest. Agents have their own skill trees too. Multiplayer supports up to 8 players, added in November 2020.
